8030 Universal Building Set

I don't own this set, just built it from my collection of parts with the instructions.

I was surprised how many different models that this set has.

Year 1982, 140 pieces.

Alternations

The only thing I had to change was to use two 2x8 gray plates instead of a 4x8 ditto since I currently don't own two 4x8 plates in gray which is needed for this set.

Windmill. The propeller axle passes through a lot of displaced (due to age and wear) bricks thus there is a lot of friction in this setup.

This car is steered via the cross axle sticking out in the back, nice and uncommon feature.

Great pieces

Uhm... One Universal joint, other then that it's mostly common studTechnic etc..

8816 Off-Road Rambler

I don't own this set, I just built it from the instructions with existing parts.

A pretty nice jeep I must say. I would have liked it if I was a kid. As an adult fan of LEGO it would do nice as a shelf model. It's not a challenge to build it but it contains some nice pieces. Functionality is limited to individual suspension on the back wheels and steering (on the front ditto, of course).

I still have to build the second model in the instruction.

Year 1994, 184 pieces

Alternations

I had to make a replacement of a special part and also use some different colors on six other parts.

Original piece

Alternative piece

2 gray 3894: Technic Brick 1 x 6 with Holes 2 white 3894: Technic Brick 1 x 6 with Holes
2 gray 3676: Slope Brick 45 2 x 2 Inverted Double Convex 2 black 3676: Slope Brick 45 2 x 2 Inverted Double Convex
2 yellow 2444: Plate 2 x 2 with Hole 2 black 2444: Plate 2 x 2 with Hole
1 black 2989 Bumper Holder 1 x 4 (I think this is the one) See it on Technica here. 1 black 3701: Technic Brick 1 x 4 with Holes

Dual suspension.

Non-standard white swingarms.

Great pieces

Shocks, not that I actually used them in anything I ever built on my own but they are cool :)
Wheels. The smallest balloon tire in the Technic line with yellow hubs, yummy!
Lot's of gray 1 x 6 beams. 10 pieces in that little jeep! I only had eight so they must be pretty rare.

4010 Police Rescue Boat

I remember playing with this set when I was a kid, was pretty fun. Bought another as part of a deal recently.

Great pieces

6 x 2 x 2 weight
Boat shell, I have a MOC in my head for two of these someday :)

6018 Battle Dragon

Recent purchase, nothing special.

Year 1990, 49 pieces

I'd think this boat would tip over rather quickly if it was real, thank Jebus it's a toy :) On Lugnet some thought the man rowing was a slave, I think he's another guard. They have gold in the boat. My g/f had one of these when she was a kid.

Great pieces

1 x 1 cones?

6235 Buried Treasure

Bought in a large deal.

Year 1989, 20 pieces

First time I've seen a Minifig monkey in person, just 13 years after this set was introduced :)

The chest contains a number of gold coins.

Great pieces

I'll think of something... Update: I've found the pirate flag useful!

6245 Harbor Sentry

Bought after Dark Ages.

Year 1990, 24 pieces

My set lacks some pieces...

Some notes on Lugnet suggested this pirate would sink rapidly trying to fire that cannon. I agree but the instruction has a photo with the cannon on shore so I think he's only transporting it.

Great pieces

4 x 4 turntable
Perhaps the cannon can come in handy...

6257 Castaway's Raft

Bought as part of a big deal.

Year 1990, 50 pieces

Not much to say really. A bunch of minifigs and a shark...

Great pieces

Um... The 1 x 1 with studs on side is a good part!

6352 Cargomaster Crane

Bought as part of a big deal.

Year 1991, 133 pieces

The cargo is a small tractor, I kind of like this crane. I think I have to do a Technic crane some day...

Great pieces

The 1 x 4 hinges always come in handy and by now you probably know what I think of yellow parts (I love them) :)

6353 Coastal Cutter

Bought in a large deal.

Year 1991, 175 pieces

The towing function is quite clever but other then that this is a fairly plain set.

Great pieces

Has some rather good basic pieces like 1 x 2 tile grille and 1 x 2 plate with handle.
The 2 x 2 "boats" can also come in handy some day...

6376 Breezeway Cafe

Bought as part of a big deal, I think I would have liked it as a kid - I like it as an AFOL :)

Year 1990, 171 pieces

Here it is, mine lacks some pieces, a green 2 x 2 plate round on top of the palm tree and a 1 x 1 tile in transparent red. Can't have everything I suppose. After all, a kid has played with it :)

LEGO has re-released this set as a classic with number 10037.

Side, notice the lights in the arch. Nice.

Great pieces

Big transparent windows, I bet I can use these someday somehow :)

6380 Emergency Treatment Center

I remember this set from the catalogs when I was a kid, I never wanted it though since I was mostly into Technic, today I've realized some "standard" pieces is necessary to build good Technic. Part of a large deal.

Year 1987, 284 pieces

Looks nice huh?

Side, don't notice the white trash can lid, it's supposed to be dark gray but hey! I was all out of them...

Great pieces

Dunno really, a bunch of white and so on, nothing special.
